AN URBAN RENEWAL OF WASHINGTON D.C.
In this collaborative project, we addressed the current conditions of the Union Station area, which dealt with a lack of pedestrian use and grand, out of scale green spaces around less frequented monuments. In doing so, we proposed more intimate pedestrian friendly streets occupied by mixed-use buildings. the green spaces become tighter and cushioned by public buildings such as markets, libraries or hotels. The area necessitated a the transition from the east residential neighborhood to the large private commercial buildings in the west. By implementating mixed-use buildings which would service tourists, local shoppers, or residents alike, this urban renewal will bring much needed life into an area so close to the nation's Capitol.
