WOODEN MASQUERADE
Made of carvable basswood, this sculpture takes precedent from the tradition of the French masquerade worn in high society balls.
Masquerade masks are historically significant in hiding one's identity as well as celebrating elaborate occasions in late medieval court life. I chose this object to be a symbol of the folly nature of party culture today, where one wears an often extravagant exterior in public to hide or stifle one's real authentic identity.
